Luis Amaya is a Vice President at Northern Trust Asset Management, the investment arm of the Northern Trust Corporation, which is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. Luis manages a team responsible for the oversight and operations of the Common and Collective Investment Trust (CIT) Products. Luis is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he received a BA in Economics. Immediately after graduation, Luis started his career in the financial services industry. His first role was as a Fund Accountant, which quickly progressed to more senior roles and eventually led to managing a team of fifteen that was responsible for the daily valuation of portfolios valued over $100BB. His experience in fund accounting, in conjunction with his desire to learn more about restructuring investment portfolios, led him to take a new role leading institutional plan restructures. This new role provided an opportunity to build out his project management skills and experience dealing with transnational plans. His unique skillset then aligned him for a newly created role of Product Specialist, responsible for the operational oversight and support of the investment products across the globe. As the work accumulated, a team was built out for Luis to lead. The role has evolved to focus on CIT Funds and his creativity and versatility to handle various market challenges, has resulted in millions of dollars saved for fund shareholders. Outside of his job responsibilities, Luis has received the Northern Trust Global Diversity Award in 2011 and 2012, the Absolute Quality Award in 2012 and the Northern Trust Chairman’s Diversity & Inclusion Award in 2012. He serves as an advisory board member for the Latin Heritage Leadership Council at Northern Trust, where he held the Vice President role in 2014/2015 and President in 2016/2017.
