I am the youngest of four and was the first in my family to graduate from high school and go away to college. I went to the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (U of I) for accounting. As a first generation college student, I was in the dark about higher education. HACE helped put me in front of the corporate world and helped me practice networking even as a freshman in college. I stayed involved me HACE was integral part of my college experience and professional development. My career has benefited from my involvement in HACE. Being involved in Mujeres de HACE has built up my confidence as well as leadership skills. The camaraderie that was developed with the women that I graduated with was something spectacular. HACE fulfills me in a way my career will never be able to. As a new member of HACE’s board of directors, I hope to help the organization to secure financial security as well as help market the wonderful programs HACE offers that are unlike others. I envision myself being a part of HACE for many years to come. – Marisol Martinez, HACE Board of Directors
