Emmanuel Lopez is a senior at Indiana University Northwest, pursing a degree in Business Communication and Public Relations in addition to double minoring in psychology and Spanish.

“As a first generation college student I have benefited from support systems my entire life. I am grateful for organization like HACE because they provide the opportunities that compliment my professional development. I wanted to intern at HACE because it was an opportunity for me to transform my gratitude into passionate work”.

Emmanuel is one of two communication and marketing interns for HACE this fall. He mentions that interning is an essential part of any college student career, because it allows you to apply what you have learned into productive work.

Emmanuel is passionate about helping young Latino professionals.

“I think it’s important to highlight that as a Latino student, parents push academics first. They don’t see the value in extra curriculum activities or clubs. Academics are important but so are your interpersonal skills, leadership, and emotional intelligence. You have to find a balance; your social aspects in college provide the environments to develop these soft skills that impact your career just as much as your academics do.

Two books Emmanuel would recommend:

  • Managing oneself by Peter Drucker
  • #AskGaryVee: One Entrepreneur’s Take on Leadership, Social Media, and Self-Awareness.
